Marahau Water Taxis
The Locals Choice for Water Taxis into the Abel Tasman
Marahau Water Taxis provides water transportation services in the Abel Tasman National Park, all year round. Scheduled sailings depart daily and are a popular way to experience the Abel Tasman Coast Track.
Marahau Water Taxis is the only water transport company operating in the Abel Tasman to have its own general store, camping ground, sea kayaking base and cafe/beer garden right on site. The company’s operating base is also the closest to the Marahau boat-ramp, the water-based departure point for the Abel Tasman. Whether you want a short walk, a long hike, a relaxed scenic cruise or simply to spend the day on a beach, Marahau Water Taxis has the perfect trip for you.
The Abel Tasman National Park contains a great number of walk sections, trip alternatives and epic locations. Because we like to keep things simple our trips and scheduled sailings are incredibly easy to understand and book.
After being something of a side-business to the Marahau Beach Camp, Peter and Sandra Alborn acquired the business in 1997 as part of the purchase of the lease on the Marahau Beach Camp. Over the next decade they grew the business to include four water taxis and a decent chunk of the Abel Tasman water transport market.
In May 2012 the Alborn family purchased Abel Tasman AquaTaxi from Ngai Tahu Tourism. While Marahau Water Taxis has continued to operate under its own unique brand and identity, the acquisition of AquaTaxi provided the Alborns with a total of 15 boats and over half of the Abel Tasman National Park water taxi capacity.
